EDCY: European Deaf Christian Youth

EDCY. European Deaf Christian YouthThis August an exciting week-long event for European Deaf Christian Youth aged 18-35 is taking place in the UK. The event runs every two years in various locations across in Europe, held in Switzerland, Lithuania, Holland, Sweden, Estonia and Russia in previous years. Jay & Elizabeth Thomas-Morton and Martin & Esther Evans are organising this year’s event, and with up to 140 people expected to attend, we’re currently fundraising to achieve our target of £10,000. So far we’ve raised £5,350, enabling Eastern Europeans (unable to afford the cost) to attend. Last year’s Green Party raised £1,300, and Martin & Esther’s 24-hour tour visiting 20 premiership football stadiums raised £2,400. The money raised will go towards publicity, resources, foods & drink, activities, to invite the guests and much more!

The theme of the conference is “Salt and Light of the World”, and we’ll be inviting five deaf leaders from across Europe. Our aim is to gather young deaf people together in one place, sharing in the fellowship of God’s love. For the week we’ll be communicating using ‘Sign Language International’, which is different from ‘British Sign Language’. This is a great opportunity for Christian deaf youth to experience God’s love through teaching, fellowship, encouragement and laughs. At the end of the week we hope they’ll be blessed and encouraged as they go home, continuing with their own lives and ministries in countries across Europe where there is a real lack of Christian resources.

We are so passionate about seeing this amazing event take place and say a for helping make our vision a reality. Visit our website to find out more about what we’re doing, and feel free to make a donation to support EDCY 2013…
