The Elves message weaves its magic…

The Elves message weaves its magicIn December Riverside Performing Arts took the message that God answers prayer to over 4000 children in Birmingham primary schools through ‘The Elves and the Shoemaker’ show. This tour included many schools situated in inner city areas with multi-ethnic, faith communities.

We saw hundreds of children joyfully joining in the song and gasping at the acrobatics. One head teacher rushed up to us after we’d performed in her school for the first time, saying, “Your performance has been the best show we’ve had in years. I want to book you for next year.” Another deputy head said, “We always appreciate your performances. The fun and excitement on the children’s faces is priceless. Thank you for the way your shows link with the Christian ethos of our school.”

In one drama workshop at NICE, teachers came running from nearby classrooms as a normally silent, small boy with multiple disabilities roared ferociously like a lion. They were astonished to witness such a withdrawn child transformed through the power of drama.

Here is one of our drama student’s response to this experience: “There is a word used to describe a situation where your skills, faith and passion all join into one. I believe it’s called ‘Synergy’. I’ve been pushed to the limits physically and challenged spiritually. This term has been uplifting. I’ve already developed friendships that will last a lifetime. I want to thank everyone in the church who has been so supportive and warm. Your prayers are what hold us together.”
