Happy Birthday Pineapple Stay & Play!

On Thursday 5 November 2009 around 12 families met together for the first week of Pineapple Stay and Play, with mostly second hand toys and enough funds for just a few months rent… one year later… on 4 November 2010 over 30 families gathered together to celebrate our first birthday!

We can’t believe that a whole year has passed and we have so much to thank God for: So many local families who have heard about and experienced something of God’s love; Opportunities to pray for families who are ill or struggling; Safety; and over £3,000 in grants, gifts and donations, (enabling us to pay our rent & buy new toys).

There are also many people to thank who have made this year possible, including:

Julian Mander – for much advice and encouragement; Fiona, Keith and the team at Riverside house who support us in so many practical ways; Volunteers past & present including Gill Yeomans, Hannah Walsh, Peter Coleman & Sheila; Father Peter and the PCC at Church of the Ascension; Councillor Huxtable’s team and the Community Chest fund.
After a whole year we feel tired but blessed and are beginning to look forward to the future- so where are we going from here?  We have recently established a leadership team to share the vision and running of the group. Please pray that God would develop us into a strong team, able to listen well and know God’s guidance. We pray that God would use the Stay & Play to bring his love and wholeness to local children and their families and ultimately that they would come to know Him for themselves.

And finally, if anyone an idea to help your local community – pray, talk to your community group and if there’s someone else who shares your vision then go for it, even if it seems impossible. It worked for us! Anna Saunders, Miriam Gaskell, Sam Jones
