Riverside’s Community Summer

As we enter the new school year, we really want to give God thanks for what has proved an encouraging and special summer for us as the Riverside family. Joint services, praying together before the services and a shared picnic lunch last Sunday (blessed by sunshine!), have combined to give us a fresh sense of what church is about. Just as Team GB was about individuals ‘running the race’ but with success for the team as the goal, so gathering together to pray has encouraged us that we all have the same heart and desire to see God’s presence increase.

As we have met and shared food together, 1st and 2nd service members have rediscovered old friends or met for the first time: there has been a renewed sense of family. As life increases its pace into the autumn let’s continue to be a community of love, reflecting God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) in whose image we are made, and press on together running the race and living out the story.

The shared picnic was a great illustration that if we all bring what we have (in this case food), there is more than enough to share and some left over. We want the love we share for God and each other to spill out into the community so a river of blessing flows out from us and brings life wherever it goes. (Ezekiel 47)

… there was water, flowing from under the threshold of the temple toward the east… “This water flows toward the eastern region, goes down into the valley, and enters the sea. When it reaches the sea, its waters are healed. And it shall be that every living thing that moves, wherever the rivers go, will live. There will be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters go there; for they will be healed, and everything will live wherever the river goes.”
