Roc & Mif Weekends Away

During the first days of spring, as we shivered in the month of March, the amazing young people who are part of the Riverside family had their weekends away. First up was Roc (11-14’s) which at times felt like McDonalds in rush hour (the maddest games ever invented, diet coke jelly fight anyone?) combined with some amazing God-appointed moments. The theme for the weekend was “identity” which is a massive issue for young people. It was great to have Martin Woodruff (youth worker based in Liverpool) and Naomi Oliver (used to work for RSPA) come and lead some brilliant creative sessions in the ice cold chapel, while allowing time for the Holy Spirit to work amongst the young people as they prayed for each other to be secure in their identity as a child of God.

And two weeks later we were back at Smallwood Manor, time for the Miff weekend (15’s-18’s). And to carry on the restaurant-related metaphor, this was Costa with a shot of Caramel; relaxed with a challenging flavour! All of these guys have busy lives (school and exams looming) so asking the Lord to come and refresh us was the order of the weekend. My good friend Mark Watson came to speak on “Nehemiah” looking at issues surrounding God’s heart and themes surrounding justice.

Both the weekends were brilliant with amazing team and quality young people. I’m really excited to see what the Lord has in store for us as a youth group as we enter.

The Youth.
