Deaf ministry

Riverside Church

Since September 2004, Deaf people have been involved with Riverside Church and have experienced a positive attitude and a great welcome. Each week since 2004, Riverside has provided a qualified Sign Language Interpreter at one of their Sunday morning services at 9.30am and has always been keen to make sure that Deaf people can access all parts of the service. The services are based at Queensbridge School: For more information about services, click here.

1 Corinthians 12:12 “The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one body.”

This is what we see in Riverside: Deaf and Hearing people have differences, but we work together as one community, serving Jesus in one spirit.

Word of Hands

Welcome from Jay on Vimeo.

Word of Hands is a church open to the Deaf Community, BSL users, and any hearing person who wants a church with a difference!  We all share the same experience, the love of God in a united family of Christ.  The Bible teaches that the Church body has many parts but they are all part of the same whole; in life this can be language, culture whether you are Deaf or Hearing; we worship together as a whole.

Word of Hands services are led in British Sign Language with an English voice-over.  The worship is unique, integrating Deaf and Hearing people using DVDs with uplifting music, subtitles and Deaf Signed Worship leaders.

We also provide LightHouse Kids; Jesus said to the little children, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” (Matthew 19:14, NIV).  We totally believe this and see children as an important part of our church.  Our kids groups are for children 0-8 years old.  Creche staff also use BSL to make sure that Deaf and Hearing children are welcome and can be part of our groups.

We are on a journey that brings us all, Deaf or Hearing, to the love of Christ, fellowshipping together and obeying His teaching.

Come and join us and you will experience the love of God, taught in a relevant way by a welcoming church.

Word of hands runs on the 1st Sunday of every month (apart from January).

BSL Home Group

BSL Home Group from Jay on Vimeo.

Our BSL Home Group is a time of weekly blessing for Deaf and Hearing BSL Users.  Its an opportunity to join together for worship, to discuss Bible themes and share fellowship and encourage one another.  We meet every week at Jay and Elizabeth’s house and there’s always plenty of fun, cups of tea and even a few cakes!

Church services are focused on teaching from the front, and our BSL Home Group gives us the time to come together, explore the teaching further and learn from each other.  We are able to discuss the teachings given at church, seek clarification from each other and deepen our understanding of God’s work, develop our walk with Christ and deepen our faith.

Weekly theme are based on Word of Hands’ sermons and we follow the ‘theme of the month’; recent themes have been ‘The Armour of God’ and ‘Fruits of the Spirit’.

As well as biblical discussions home group organises social evenings throughout the year; New Years , our Home Group’s Anniversary, Pancake Night, Easter Theme, Summer BBQ Festival, Bonfire Night, Christmas Theme and many more!

The BSL Home Group meets weekly on Wednesday Evening, from 7.30pm to start at 8.00pm and finishing at approximately 10.00pm.

If you would like to come and visit our BSL Home Group, please go to “Contact Us” and feel free to add your mobile number onto our text weekly reminder!
