Do you want to follow Christ wholeheartedly, and yet see that there is a gulf between the 'religious' and the 'ordinary' life?
Do you wish that there was a greater sense of
cohesion between your 'Christian life' and your
life while at work, at home, while playing sport
or in other leisure pursuits and in your
relationships?
The men's ministry at Riverside Church is called 'Men Behaving Wisely' - playing
on the well known title 'men behaving badly' - a realisation that sadly, men
today do often behave badly, but that as Christians we are called to a lifestyle
of wisdom and
sincerity. As a ministry our focus is on:
- Discipleship - drawing on God's wisdom to transform our lives
- Friendship - to support each other as men called by God to follow Jesus Christ
- Mission - to share our faith in Christ with other men
There are men in the congregation at Riverside of all ages and backgrounds. We aim to support them
through specific ministry events and discipleship which runs alongside the regular church meetings and small groups. Our hope
is that men will be involved in every aspect of the church and will be examples of holiness and integrity in the church, their families and
among their friends and colleagues at work.
The men's ministry is led by a committee of Harry Hewat, Andy Worthington, Ross
Bryson, Pete Whitfield and Richard Harbour. Events are run throughout the year, including:
- Men's breakfasts - a time of fellowship, teaching and food on Saturday mornings
(NB - for the time being no breakfasts are currently planned.)
- Men's activity weekend - adventure activity weekend in October
for men; young and old, dads and lads, youth leaders/ mentors.
- Golf Days
- for those who can drive, chip and putt.
- Walk and talk days - leisurely Saturday walks in the countryside.
A great opportunity to share fellowship and meet men in the church.
- Real Riverside Football Club - reaching out with an example of
integrity in the Birmingham amateur football league.
The men's ministry at Riverside also aims to reach out to men who have no
faith in Christ, primarily by encouraging men in the church to share the gospel
with their friends and colleagues. It is a sad fact that the masculine identity
is slowly being eroded and social problems among men are rapidly increasing. We
believe that identity and hope lies in Christ and therefore seek to encourage
the men at Riverside in their Christian growth and expression as 'men after
God's heart'.
The men's ministry at Riverside is affiliated with
'Christian Vision for Men', a UK wide network whose vision is: 'To equip the
church to introduce every man in the UK to Jesus Christ'. For further
