Mission: Uganda

This summer, a team of 13 youth and leaders travelled out to Uganda with the aim of bringing the teachings and love of God to schoolchildren and others working in and around the third world country. It was amazing living and working alongside some inspirational people and reminding each one of the team how faithful God is! His fingerprints were all over the trip and it was a huge privilege to there.

We started in Kampala, the capital of Uganda, working in a local school named Kairos  where we really saw God move. We taught music, art and sports lessons  and ran assemblies based on stories in the Bible over three consecutive days, whilst also redecorating Kings International School. This provided a balance between mentally and physically challenging work. Believe me, trying to keep control of over sixty hyperactive children is a bit of both! We also felt the presence of God within the family community of Heather Davidson and the kids staying with her, many of whom have origins in the slums, which we visited later on the trip.

After Kampala, we travelled to Mbale, a rural village and location of  Zion Good Daddy School (where we taught the staff how to play Dodge Ball) and Jenga, a charity doing work with some of the poorest parts of Mbale. We painted a hospice that hadn’t been decorated for 12 years, prayed for the sick in hospital and had an amazing time overall.
The team were fantastic in overcoming challenges together, looking out for each other, praying for one another and laughing a lot with each other! We all learned from each other as a team, from people that we met and also learnt more of how God is at work in a beautiful country. We want to think everyone who supported the project with prayer, finance and practical help. We can’t wait for the next trip!
