Haiti earthquake

A powerful 7.0 magnitude earthquake has struck Haiti, causing mass casualties and devastation and with hundreds suspected killed. Early reports indicate that a hospital, the presidential palace and many other buildings have collapsed.

The quake was followed by two strong aftershocks. Frank Williams, National Director for World Vision Haiti, reported that people were left “pretty much screaming”, with portions of buildings falling off into the streets.

World Vision is assessing the situation and working to mobilise essential supplies already positioned in the capital, Port au Prince. World Vision worker Magalie Boyer says, “World Vision Haiti will distribute first aid kits to survivors, along with basic materials such as soap, blankets, clothes and bottles of water.”

As a church we have an ongoing relationship with World Vision, so if you want to support through them call 0800 088 088 or visit
