REAL RIVERSIDE SEASON REVIEW 2011-12
Having been promoted for a second successive season, the 2011-12 season started off with quite a few challenging issues on and off the pitch for the A team, which reflected in the results. The B team also struggled to string together some decent results but eventually improved and ended the season better. There has been slow and steady progress and there seems to be a sense of togetherness, a good team spirit and relationships being built within the team.
A change of manager halfway through the season saw the A team galvanised, and despite some indifferent performances we put together an excellent Cup run that culminated in reaching our first ever Cup final in our 9 years of existence! Despite losing the Cup final, it was a remarkable achievement considering we beat teams in higher divisions, and the loss was probably only due to the fact that the Final opponents were from Division 1 (4 divisions higher!) Both our teams finished in the bottom half of their respective divisions, but more importantly finished strongly which bodes well for next season.
During the course of the season, the management team started a monthly brunch at ‘Wetherspoons’ in Moseley as a way of getting to know some players off the football field, and praying for the A and B teams after the meal. This brunch is open to anyone who has a heart for the club including players and well-wishers.
As we approach the 10 year anniversary since the clubs formation, there are some great opportunities for church members to get involved in this exciting ministry! For example… come down and be part of the action on a Saturday afternoon, cheering one of our teams on… join the prayer team… financially support club funds… invite new players who may want to join the club!
